This is not only a requirement from the manufacturer, but it is often the reason why the old compressor is defective.

Before purchasing a compressor, please consider the following:
The main reason a compressor fails is because there is a leak in the system.
This causes the compressor to run for too long. This will cause the compressor to burn out.
The most common cause of a leak in the system is an old leaky air spring/shock absorber.
A chafed or porous intake hose/intake rod will destroy the compressor.
A kinked suction hose will cause the compressor to overheat and then destroy it.
Leaking pipes, pipe connections or air bellows must be repaired otherwise we cannot give any guarantee.
The compressor warranty will be void if this error persists.

Our technical advice for air supply:
1. An increased running noise of the compressor is often caused by the suspension of the compressor no longer functioning. Be sure to also change the suspension rubbers and springs.
2. A porous intake hose is often the cause of compressor failure.
Change this and, ideally, the filter/noise damper at the same time.
We don't want the new compressor to fail prematurely for this reason.
3. Change the working relay before installing the compressor, even if it still appears to be functional.
This is also a mandatory requirement of the car manufacturer.
Make sure you are changing the correct relay. Relays are similar. There is a great risk of having replaced the wrong relay.
4. After the repair, make sure that the system is absolutely tight.
The easiest way to determine this is to park the vehicle. Wait for the system to automatically readjust if your vehicle has this function. All heights that air supports must be precisely measured and noted from the ground to the bottom edge of the fender. The next day check and compare these heights.
Even a small deviation in the distances leads to long-term damage to the compressor and the valves.

If you have been driving for some time with a leaky undercarriage, it can be assumed that the compressor is running more often than normal. This increased number of on and off cycles may have already damaged the compressor. Depending on how long this condition has lasted, you should change the relay as a precaution and check the compressor's performance. After the car has been left overnight, a compressor should not run for more than 20 to 30 seconds until the system is ready to start again.

Before purchasing a compressor, please note the following:
Most common reasons for a defective compressor is a leak in the System and also a defective relay.
An excessive number of switch-on cycles will cause the relay contacts to stick together.
The result is continuous current on the compressor.
The compressor runs continuously without control until it burns out.

Another main reason why the compressor stops working is moisture inside the compressor.
This happens insidiously via leaks such as:
- Porous or damaged air springs or air spring parts (strut)
- Worn seals, defective compressed air connections and chafed compressed air hoses
- Leaking housings in components such as compressors, valves, air springs or struts.

Every air spring system is vulnerable in this way.
Therefore, follow our advice to avoid any further repairs in the near future.

Before a new compressor is installed, all the reasons why it has been damaged must be completely eliminated.

Our technical advise for the air supply device:
1. Change the relay before installing the compressor even if it seems to still work.
This is also a specification by the car manufacturer. Be sure to change the right relays.
Relays look similar, that is why there is a risk to change the wrong relays.
2. Be sure to check whether the system is leakproof after repairing.
The easiest way to do this is to park the vehicle. Wait for the system to automatically re-adjust if your car has this feature.
Then measure the heights from the ground to the lower edge of the fender as exactly as possible and take notes.
On the day after measure these heights again and compare them with the ones before.
Even a small difference will lead to a damaged compressor and damaged valves in the long run.

When driving with a leaking suspension for a long time it needs to be assumed that the compressor is running more often than normal.
The increased number of cycles of powering on and off is likely to already have damaged the compressor.
Depending on the duration of that condition you should change the relay and check the performance of the compressor to be on the safe side.
After the vehicle stood overnight the compressor normally doesn't need to run more than 20 to 30 seconds for the system to be ready to start.
