This complete air supply system 37202283100 for the BMW 5 Series E61 is supplied with a more powerful compressor, which is installed in a stainless steel holder.
The advantage of a more powerful compressor is the shorter running time, which leads to a longer service life due to less wear.

Since 2003, Miessler Automotive has been supplying air suspension spare parts for cars, SUVs and light commercial vehicles.

Before purchasing a compressor, please consider the following:
The most common reason for a defective compressor is a leak in the system, causing the compressor to run too long and too often.
A disproportionate number of switch-on cycles leads to premature sticking of the relay contacts.
This means the relay no longer functions.
The result is a constant current on the compressor.
The compressor runs continuously without control until it burns out.
Before a new compressor is installed, all reasons why it was damaged must be completely eliminated.

Regarding the leak:
A leak can occur in many places, such as:
- Porous or damaged air springs or air spring components (shock absorber)
- Worn seals, defective compressed air connections and frayed compressed air hoses
- Leaky housings of components such as compressor, valves, air springs or suspension struts.

Every air suspension system is vulnerable in this way.
Therefore, follow our advice to avoid having to make further repairs in the near future.

Our technical advice for air supply:
1. Increased running noise of the compressor is often caused by a suspension that is no longer functioning.
Be sure to also change the suspension rubbers and springs.
2. A porous intake hose is often the cause of compressor failure.
Change this and, if possible, the filter/silencer at the same time.
We don’t want the new compressor to fail prematurely for this reason.
3. Replace the operating relay before installing the compressor, even if it still appears to be functional.
This is also a mandatory requirement of the car manufacturer.
Make sure you are changing the correct relay. Relays are similar. There is a high risk of changing the wrong relay.
4. After the repair, make sure that the system is absolutely leak-proof.
The easiest way to determine this is to park the vehicle and wait for the system to automatically adjust (if your vehicle has this feature). Measure and note down all heights that are air-assisted, from the ground to the bottom edge of the fender. Check and compare these heights the next day.
Even a small deviation in the distances will cause damage to the compressor and the valves in the long term.

If you have been driving with a leaky chassis for some time, it is likely that the compressor is running more often than normal. This increased number of on and off cycles may have damaged the compressor. Depending on how long this condition has been going on, you should replace the relay as a precaution and check the compressor's performance. A compressor should not run for longer than 20 to 30 seconds after the car has been standing overnight until the system is ready to start again.

Before purchasing a compressor, please note the following:
Most common reasons for a defective compressor is a leak in the System and also a defective relay.

Another main reason why the compressor stops working is moisture inside the compressor.
This happens insidiously via leaks such as:
- Porous or damaged air springs or air spring parts (strut)
- Worn seals, defective compressed air connections and chafed compressed air hoses
- Leaking housings in components such as compressors, valves, air springs or struts.

Every air spring system is vulnerable in this way.
Therefore, follow our advice to avoid any further repairs in the near future.

Before a new compressor is installed, all the reasons why it has been damaged must be completely eliminated.

Our technical advise for the air supply device:
1. Change the relay before installing the compressor even if it seems to still work.
This is also a specification by the car manufacturer. Be sure to change the right relays.
Relays look similar, that is why there is a risk to change the wrong relays.
2. Be sure to check whether the system is leakproof after repairing.
The easiest way to do this is to park the vehicle. Wait for the system to automatically re-adjust if your car has this feature.
Then measure the heights from the ground to the lower edge of the fender as exactly as possible and take notes.
On the day after measure these heights again and compare them with the ones before.
Even a small difference will lead to a damaged compressor and damaged valves in the long run.

When driving with a leaking suspension for a long time it needs to be assumed that the compressor is running more often than normal.
The increased number of cycles of powering on and off is likely to already have damaged the compressor.
Depending on the duration of that condition you should change the relay and check the performance of the compressor to be on the safe side.
After the vehicle stood overnight the compressor normally doesn't need to run more than 20 to 30 seconds for the system to be ready to start.
